Mandate and Functions

 
Directly in charge in the administration and disposition of the country's mineral lands and mineral resources;
Undertake geoscientific and researches in the fields of land and marine geology, mining, mine environment, metallurgy, economics, and mine geodetic surveys;
Recommends to the Secretary the granting of Mineral Agreements and endorses to the Secretary, for approval by the President, the granting of Financial or Technical Assistance Agreements (FTAA);
Provide laboratory and other technical services to the public and other government entities;
Provide technical assistance to local government units in their performance of devolved functions on small-scale mining quarry/sand and gravel mining operations;
Provide staff support and technical advisory to the Office of Secretary on mining and geology matters; and
Acts as Secretariat to the Mines Adjudication Board (MAB).

Mission

The department shall be the primary, government Agency responsible for the conservation, management, development and proper use of the country's environment and natural resources, including those in reservation and watershed areas, and lands of the public domain, as well as the licensing and regulation of all natural resources as maybe provided by law in order to ensure equitable sharing the benefits derived therefrom for the welfare of the present and future generations of Filipinos.
