MGB holds National Annual Accounting and Budgeting Seminar-Workshop

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau held the National Annual Accounting and Budgeting Seminar-Workshop on February 3 to 7, 2025 at Eden Nature Park and Resort in Toril, Davao City. The activity aimed to enhance financial officers’ knowledge of updated government financial policies, audit compliance, and budgeting strategies. It brought together financial professionals from the MGB Central Office and Regional Offices. Key discussions covered the following topics: Updated guidelines on communication expense claims for Mines and Geosciences Bureau personnel; Revised policies on official local travel reimbursement; Implementation status of the previous year’s audit recommendations; Compliance audit and action plans for addressing audit observations; and FY 2025 budget implementation strategies. Ms. Gloria D. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted the Training-Workshop on the Consolidation and Finalization of the 2024 GAD Accomplishment Report and Pre-Testing of the Interview Schedule/ Survey Questionnaire for the DENR Sectoral Baseline Data Gathering on January 28 to 31, 2025 at Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in North Edsa, Quezon City. The four-day activity was designed to strengthen the capabilities of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Gender and Development Focal Point System, as well as the Program and Project Teams, and personnel from both the MGB Central Office and Regional Offices. The focus was on enhancing their ability to effectively implement gender-responsive programs, projects, and activities. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIlI organized the mine and mill tour of eleven Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) work immersion students from Caraga Regional Science High School on January 16, 2025 at Greenstone Resources Corporation (GRC) in Tubod, Surigao del Norte. The said tour was designed to provide students with a firsthand look at the mine and mill operations of GRC. Moreover, the experience aimed to deepen their understanding of the mining process and help them make informed decisions about which geoscience courses to pursue and the potential career paths they may follow in the future. At GRC, the students received a comprehensive overview of the project, highlighting the company’s achievements in safety and health, environmental management and social development. They also participated in a safety and health orientation on the company’s protocols. In keeping with the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the Gender and Development Focal Point System of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII conducted a full-day Learning Event for Employees on November 28, 2024 at the MGB Regional Office No. XIII Training Center in Surigao City. At the program, Regional Director Larry M. Heradez delivered the Welcome Remarks. He encouraged the participants to contribute to the collective effort of fostering a safe and equitable society for all. The morning session featured the presentation on Breaking the Stigma: Mental Health Matters by Ms. Kristyflor A. Fajarito and Ms. Esther Faith B. Montilla of Caraga State University. Geramer Vere Durato of Public Attorney’s Office-Surigao City District gave an Orientation on Republic Act 11313 (Safe Spaces Act) to promote the building of a harassment-free workplace. 126th Founding Anniversary of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau: Celebrating a rich heritage in mineral resources and geosciences advancements

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII participated in the celebration of the 126th Founding Anniversary of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau with the theme Embracing Geosciences Solutions for Climate-Smart Mining via virtual platform on November 29, 2024. Spearheaded by the MGB Central Office, the said event celebrated and affirmed the MGB’s rich heritage in mineral resources and geosciences advancements. At the event, the keynote message was delivered by DENR Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns and concurrent MGB OIC-Director, Engr. Michael V. Cabalda. 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference: Forging a Sustainable Future through Endurance and Innovation

The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association, in cooperation with the DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau, the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines, the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers, the minerals industry and other professional organizations, held the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference with the theme Endurance with Innovation for Sustainability on November 19 to 22, 2024 in Baguio City. The Opening Program and Mining Exhibit took place on November 20 at the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center.  It was followed by the Community Relations Conference which featured various presentations on the extensive social development efforts of the minerals industry on the same grounds. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted the Training-Workshop on Mining Statistics and Information Dissemination for Effective Data Compilation, Management and Visualization on October 21 to 25, 2024 at Eurotel North Edsa in Quezon City. The activity commenced with the Welcome Remarks of DENR Assistant Secretary Michael V. Cabalda, Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns and concurrent MGB OIC-Director and the Presentation of Objectives and Rationale by Engr. Romualdo D. Aguilos, Chief of Mineral Economics, Information and Publication Division of MGB Central Office. MGB ROXIII gains recognition as one of the Most Outstanding Accounting Offices for CY 2023

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII has gained recognition as one of the Most Outstanding Accounting Offices for Calendar Year 2023.  The awards were presented on the first day of the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) Annual Convention on October 9 to 12, 2024 at the IEC Convention Center in Cebu City.  Ms. Margie Ann E. MGB ROXIII, DOST Caraga and CREDO-Caraga, Inc. organize Training of Trainers on Problem Tree Analysis and Design Thinking Concepts for Community Relations Officers and Supported People’s Organizations

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. XIII and Community Relations, Education and Development Officers Organization-Caraga, Inc., organized the Training of Trainers on Problem Tree Analysis and Design Thinking Concepts for Community Relations Officers and Supported People’s Organizations on October 22, 2024 at the Provincial Research, Innovation, and Science Museum (PRISM) in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. MGB ROXIII supports PH-EITI 2024 Regional Roadshow

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII supported the Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) 2024 Regional Roadshow on September 25 to 26, 2024 at Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City. With the theme Bridging Transparency: Empowering Local Voices in Natural Resource Governance, the roadshow aimed to elevate the voices of local communities and intensify awareness of their critical role in promoting sustainable natural resource management. The roadshows are designed to foster direct and dynamic interactions among stakeholders, bridging the gap between national policy frameworks and local realities, and ensuring that the benefits of extractive industries are equitably shared.  Extractive stakeholders from Regions X, XI, XII, and XIII participated in the activity which is the third leg of the 2024 Regional Roadshows.
