MGB RXIII and CMEMC spearhead 2018 Environment Month Culminating Activities of Caraga minerals industry

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in partnership with the Caraga Mine Environmental Management Council (CMEMC), spearheaded the 2018 Environment Month Culminating Activities of Caraga minerals industry on June 28-29, 2018 at St. Paul University Surigao Gymnasium.

The said event aimed to intensify public awareness of environmental preservation and instill in the participants from mining companies and host communities a sense of accountability as stewards of the environment.

The theme of this year’s Environment Month Celebration is Beat Plastic Pollution: If You Can’t Reuse It, Refuse It!  It underscores the urgency to take concrete steps to slow the flow of plastic at its source and to improve the way we manage our plastic waste that ends up in rivers which serve as direct conduits of trash from the world’s cities to the marine environment.

A compelling message from the CMEMC President, Engr. Robert T. Francisco, officially opened the program on June 28, 2018. Competitions which revolved around the month-long celebration’s theme were participated by various mining companies. The events in which the representatives of mining companies competed on the first day were Songwriting and Singing Competition, Interpretative Dance Competition, and Ginoo at Binibining Kalikasan Talent Competition.

In the morning of June 29, the second day of the 2018 Environment Month Culminating Activities took place.  At the opening program, Engr. Francis Glenn N. Suante, OIC-Chief of the MGB RXIII Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, delivered the Welcome Remarks in which he underscored the urgency of plastic pollution reduction and the value of environmental preservation.

The exceptionally vibrant, innovative and stimulating Environmental Video, Photography and On-the-Spot Poster Making Competitions ensued after the opening program. Events scheduled in the afternoon were the Upcycling Competition, Extemporaneous Speaking Competition and Environmental Quiz Bowl. The Search for the Ginoo at Binibining Kalikasan 2018 capped the culminating activities of this year’s Environment Month Celebration.

The dynamic collaboration and concerted efforts of MGB RXIII, CMEMC, and all participating mining companies led to the overall success of the 2018 Environment Month Celebration.
