The Mines and Geosciences Bureau held the Geoscience Workshop 2024 on February 26 to March 1, 2024 at Ardenhills Suites in Quezon City.

The theme of this year’s workshop is Taking on the Challenges of Innovation for the Advancement of MGB’s Geoscience Programs.  Carried out through a hybrid platform (combined face-to-face and virtual modes), the workshop was spearheaded by the Lands Geological Survey Division.  It served as a venue for the comprehensive discussion of accomplishments, projects and road map of various geoscience programs and was attended by geologists from the MGB Central Office and Regional Offices.

The first day started with a plenary session for all the participants wherein the MGB OIC-Director, Atty. Danilo U. Uykieng delivered the Opening Remarks.  It was then followed by presentations of 2023 Accomplishments and Road Map of the Lands Geological Survey Division and Marine Geological Survey Division; Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Geoscience Programs; and DENR One Control Map, MGB Geospatial Database, Programs, Activities and Projects Geodatabases and Data Sharing Protocol and Security.

Parallel sessions on major programs took place on the second day until the fourth day to maximize the duration of the workshop. The major programs include 1) National Geologic Quadrangle Mapping Program, 2) Marine Geological Survey Division Program, 3) Groundwater Resources and Vulnerability Assessment, 4) National Mineral Reservation Program, 5) Land Geohazards: Hazard Mapping, IEC, Operation Center, and Geohazard Services, 6) Geological Laboratory Services, and 7) Issues and Concerns Related to Administrative, Financial, Planning and Legal Matters. The workshop ended with the synthesis of the workshop outputs and agreements.
