The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIlI participated in the 1st National Community Relations Officers’ and Practitioners’ Congress on September 17 to 19, 2025 at Caraga State University in Ampayon, Butuan City. The event was spearheaded by the National Community Relations Practitioners of the Philippine Mining and Minerals Industry (NCRPP) in partnership with the Community Relations, Education and Development Officers Organization-Caraga, Inc. (CREDO-Caraga, Inc.) With the theme “Bridging Perspectives, Building the Future: A Congress for Shared Progress,” the congress brought together Community Relations Officers and Practitioners from across the country, along with MGB personnel from the Central Office and Regional Offices. It served as a venue for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and capacity-building to improve social development efforts in mining communities. The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIlI joined the Tree Growing Activity in celebration of the 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary on September 17, 2025 at Puting Bato, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte. This year’s anniversary celebration carried the theme ‘Bawat Lingkod Kawani, Lingkod Bayani: Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para sa Bayan!’ Spearheaded by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Caraga, the activity highlighted the shared commitment of partner agencies to environmental stewardship and public service. At the program, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Josh AJ Jose A. Chin delivered the Welcome Remarks on behalf of Cabadbaran City Mayor Judy Chin-Amante.  Messages were also given by CSC Caraga Regional Director Winston L. Plaza, DENR Caraga OIC-Regional Executive Director Maritess M. Ocampo, PENR Officer Adelaida R. Borja, and OIC-CENR Officer Hernan P. Ramirez. MGB ROXIII, Auro conducts Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid Trainin...

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIlI, in partnership with Auro Resources Trading Incorporated (Auro), successtully conducted a Basic Life Support and Standard First Aid Training for Julz Gold Ore Mining, a small-scale mining contractor operating within the declared People’s Small-Scale Mining Area or Minahang Bayan in the Municipality of Placer, Province of Surigao del Norte. The training was held from August 25 to 29, 2025 in Surigao City. Facilitated by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Surigao del Norte (PDRRMO-SDN), it aimed to strengthen the emergency response knowledge and skills of small-scale miners in order to ensure greater safety within their work environment. MGB ROXIII attends DENR Field Operations-Mindanao Cluster Conference

Mines and Geosciences Bureau Caraga Regional Director Larry M. Heradez attended the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Field Operations-Mindanao Cluster Conference on August 20 to 22, 2025 at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City. At the conference, DENR Undersecretary Joselin Marcus E. Fragada, CESO III, Undersecretary for Field Operations-Mindanao and Supervising Undersecretary for Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Mindanao and Environmental Management Bureau-Mindanao, delivered a message.  It was followed by updates, bureau discussions and regional presentations from DENR, MGB and EMB Regional Offices IX, X, XI, XII, and XIII. Furthermore, the conference was honored by the presence of DENR Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla who led discussions aimed at strengthening coordination among officials in setting strategic directions, addressing key challenges, and enhancing the Department’s programs and projects throughout Mindanao. MGB ROXIII completes SHES Systems Audit covering CY 2024

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office has successfully completed the Safety, Health, Environment, and Social Development (SHES) Systems Audit covering Calendar Year 2024 for MGB Regional Office No. XIII from August 4 to 7, 2025. The four-day audit was carried out by the MGB Central Office through its Mine Safety, Environment, and Social Development Division, led by For. Teodorico L. Marquez Jr. (Environmental Management), together with Engr. David L. Villanueva (Safety and Health Management), Engr. Richard P. Alamo (Environmental Management), For. Roberto Martin C. MGB ROXIII participates in Opening Ceremony of 2025 Caraga Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII participated in the Opening Ceremony of the 2025 Caraga Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) on July 30, 2025 at Robinsons Mall in Butuan City. Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga Regional Office, this year’s RSTW carries the theme “Siyensiya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan” and the sub-theme “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities”.  The event laid emphasis on the crucial role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in fostering resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities. At the event, DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr., delivered the Keynote Message.  DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho A. Mabborang and DOST Caraga Regional Director Noel M. MGB ROXIII, CSU and CREDO-Caraga, Inc. ink MOA on ICT4RM implementation

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, in partnership with Caraga State University (CSU) and the Community Relations, Education and Development Officers Organization–Caraga, Inc. (CREDO), held a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing for the implementation of Information and Communication Technology for Responsible Mining (ICT4RM) 2.0 on July 18, 2025 at the CSU Administrative Conference Room in Ampayon, Butuan City. The initiative aims to enhance the assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of mining resources and their contributions through the use of collective intelligence. It also includes the integration of online applications for Ore Transport Permit (OTP) and Mineral Ore Export Permit (MOEP), as well as the enhancement of the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). Professional Regulatory Board of Geology visits MGB ROXIII for inspection and monitoring activities

The Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Geology conducted an official inspection and monitoring visit at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII to assess the Bureau’s compliance with professional standards in geological practice today. The monitoring team was composed of Atty. Fernando S. Peñarroyo, Chairman of the PRB of Geology, and Dr. Elmer B. Billedo. Ms. Cherry May A. Mamasu-Espejon, representative of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Region XIII, also took part in the activity. This activity was conducted in accordance with Section 9 of Republic Act No. 8981, also known as the “PRC Modernization Act of 2000”. The law mandates that professional regulatory boards are responsible for monitoring the conditions affecting the practice of their respective professions and conducting ocular inspections with deputized representatives from the Commission. DENR Secretary leads unveiling ceremony of SMMCI Copper and Gold Project

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga led the unveiling ceremony of the Copper and Gold Project of Silangan Mindanao Mining Company, Inc. (SMMCI) on May 28, 2025 in Barangay Timamana, Municipality of Tubod, Province of Surigao del Norte. Key officials including DENR Undersecretary for Field Operations-Mindanao Joselin Marcus E.
