The two-day event started with a kick-off caravan starting from Butuan City and Tandag City on August 24-25, 2015 participated by the Regional Offices of the different National Agencies. The contingents met at the gymnasium of Barangay San Isidro, Municipality of Marihatag where they were welcomed by the LGU’s of Surigao del Sur headed by the Provincial Governor of Surigao del Sur, Hon. Johnny T. Pimentel, and the Municipal Mayor of Marihatag, Hon. Allan A. Pelenio. The second day was held in the municipal gym of Lianga where the occasion was graced by the arrival of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Sec. Teresita Quintos-Deles, and Undersecretaries of various national agencies coming directly from Manila. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed by Governor Johnny T. Pimentel, Vice-Governor Manuel O. Alameda, Sr., Mayor Roy Hegino G. Sarmen of Lianga and Mayor Libertad O. Alameda of San Agustin.

The Peace Caravan is mainly held as a venue wherein the Philippine Government through the convergence of different National Agencies provide their basic services and extends interventions especially to isolated, hard-to-reach and conflict-affected communities ensuring that these areas are not left behind by development.

For its part, MGB ROXIII took the opportunity to distribute IEC materials on geologic hazards and disseminate the 1:10,000-scale landslide and flood susceptibility maps to the Municipalities of Marihatag and Lianga which the LGUs could use in their disaster risk reduction planning and management.
